What is the Nitrogen Cycle?

The Nitrogen Cycle is the process by which good bacterial colonies in your fish tank convert ammonia and waste into a less harmful version called “nitrate”. Fish produce ammonia as part of regular metabolism however ammonia is very poisonous to them. Without bacteria to drive this cycle, ammonia can reach critical levels and kill your fish.
